XYO Network

The location-verifying proof of origin protocol that connects the blockchain to the real world.

About XYO Network

The XYO Network has been working towards the concept of enabling developers, such as those writing smart contracts for blockchain platforms, to interact with the physical world as if it were an API. The network’s abstractions make location verification trustless and allow entities to transact in the real world without a centralized third party. The XYO Network will be built upon an existing infrastructure of over 1,000,000 devices circulating worldwide that were distributed through the company’s consumer-facing Findables business. XYs Bluetooth and GPS devices allow users to place physical tracking beacons on the things they want to keep track of (such as keys, luggage, bikes and even pets). If they misplace or lose such an item, they can see exactly where it is by viewing its location on a smartphone application.

Competitors: G-ME, faizod.GPS, Maersk, TIM
Uniqueness/Advantages to competition: Utilizes on-earth devices to create a GPS network that also utilizes blockchain.

Product

The XYO Network is meant to be a service for easy GPS tracking verification. There is currently an android app available for testing and there is a publicly accessible and very active github with eleven repositories, but the full platform is planned to be launched after the ICO (see Roadmap).
There is appeal to the platform as there is increasing demand for GPS services, as GPS becomes more thoroughly immersed in everyday-life. The target user base includes anyone with the need to use GPS services and is therefore very large and global. There is a large amount of legacy competition in this space, with some decent competitors in the blockchain space as well.

Use of Blockchain

The XYO Network’s contribution to blockchain development is in creating a new decentralized service for GPS services and trustless real-world transactions using the Ethereum blockchain. The project’s primary disruptive advantage is in creating a GPS service that is powered and secured by the transparency of blockchain technology. The need for a custom token is in allowing users to gain access to the platform such as to utilize GPS services and retrieve location data. The contribution to the blockchain ecosystem is in developing a new blockchain-based earth-bound GPS system with immutability and transparency.

The whitepaper and website contain a disclaimer and a discussion of risk factors, and KYC is enforced with a registration process that allows for photo ID upload. There is also documentation of a series A+ fundraising award from the SEC such as to allow a public offering of up $50 million. Series A+ is currently the best option in the US for a public offering without a public listing, however it is very challenging to recieve a series A+ award from the SEC. The legal disclaimer states that the tokens are intended for use as functional utility tokens and and come with no warranties. The terms and conditions of the sale aim to absolve the company of any liability regarding the ICO and any problems that may occur, and provide a general statment that the tokens are not to be deemed a security and will comply with all laws in areas which the platform is offered.
