Moirai is a prediction market where individuals can wager on the outcome of future events. It poses questions such as who will win the 2020 presidential election and allows individuals to wager on the outcome by a given set of options to choose from. Each option is represented by a share and the value of that share shows the probability of the outcome. For instance; each share represents €1,- if an individual chooses the right outcome his or her share will be redeemable for €1,- while other shares of other options become worthless. The market price then serves as an indicator of what the crowd thinks the probability of the event is. Moirai states that investors have a direct incentive to purchase these shares as it reflects their beliefs on the outcome.

The company strives to be a disruptive force in a variety of global markets systematically. Markets such as finance, insurance, information and many more. The ecosystem will consist of providers, operators, Moirai itself, and users. Providers provide access to the network and ensure traffic; Operators are responsible for creating events and resolving them, acting as a centralized and reputable oracle. Moirai is the official organisation that creates the tokens, model and technology. Users are the participators in events, wagering on the outcome of real-world events.

The targeted audience, besides the conventional market, is a mass audience to introduce to the cryptographic world, so as to expand their network whilst engaging a broader audience with conventional payment methods. It should also be mentioned that prediction markets are a popular way of polling public opinion as it directly reflects belief among individuals on the outcome of real-world events. (The Power of Predictions Market by Nature)

The project is  believed to be a platform that will stimulate the crypto-economy by reaching mass adoption and demand, thus introducing users to other crypto tokens and contributing to a sustainable economy. The company in turn asks holders to hold tokens in reserve, as either a requirement or a recommendation,  for managing the investments, participation, and profit earned through the prediction market platform. Contracts will be in place for all wagers and a fee of 5% will be charged on every prediction event.

The blockchain is used for the purpose of decentralisation and making a sustainable platform where users, operators and providers interact into making the platform work and reducing the exposure to regulatory scrutiny. A thorough study of its competitors has been made which include; Gnosis, Augur and Stox and points out that they’re limited in their services due to regulations and also provides a competitor analysis, summing up points where they have the advantage and it looks to be in favor for Moirai who not only is busy working on getting licensed but also already has a working platform as opposed to its competitors who have been around for a while in the market but still haven’t delivered.

The company is on track regarding their roadmap having already completed a web platform and next up is the development of a mobile app. Furthermore, they want to launch, market and expand the business within a spread of one year. The launch is scheduled on the 28th of May.  Currently users can access Moira’s demo and participate in a number of prediction events (registration required). Moirai intends to develop open source desktop and mobile applications, which will implement a user interface while allowing access over Ethereum to Moirai contracts, listings, content, and events oriented data. The detailed roadmap includes the development of the existing web-based platform and a mobile app, launch of the platform, marketing campaigns, building the user community and expanding the network, to take place over a period of one year. The expected time from the token sale until the web platform is launched is six months, and nine months for the business market.

There is  a broad team in place with at least 9 developers. The CEO Gary Taylor is well experienced and has worked for companies like Elsevier, Gaming Recruit Solutions and BetLion after graduating from Oxford university in engineering, economics and management. The team is transparently presented on their website each with a brief summary and a link to their LinkedIn profile.
